The Colville National Forest’s wildlands are too precious to be up for debate, but they are. If you enjoy the hiking trails, wildlife and natural beauty of the Colville National Forest, NOW is the time to recommend these rare roadless areas for wilderness protection.

You're invited to help us during this historic opportunity. Please urge the Forest Service to recommend the Colville National Forest's rare, remaining roadless areas for wilderness protection and protect their wild character until Congress can consider them for wilderness designation.

We are hosting three "Write a Letter for Wilderness" parties on Wednesday, October 15, 2008, from 5:30 to 8pm and we will be showing the  presidential debates*.

Write a letter and you have the opportunity to win one of many great prizes generously donated by Backcountry Essentials, Conservation Northwest, GSI Outdoors, Mystery Ranch, and REI! (Winners will be selected by our panel of judges based on the specificity, originality, and effectiveness of their letters.)

Here are the locations:

Spokane: Community Building, 35 W. Main Ave.

Seattle: Piecora's Pizza, 1401 E. Madison Ave.

Bellingham: Conservation Northwest's office suites, 1208 Bay St. #201

We'll provide free letter materials, food, drink, door prizes for letter writers AND watch the presidential debate! Just bring your friends and your creative juices!

The evenings are cosponsored by the Cascades Chapter-Sierra Club, Gonzaga CCASL, Spokane Audubon Society, Spokane Mountaineers, The Lands Council, Upper Columbia River Group-Sierra Club, Washington Native Plant Society and Washington Wilderness Coalition. Many thanks.

*Conservation Northwest is as 501(c)3. We will not be endorsing or supporting either presidential candidate at these events.
