Volunteer on the trails this summer with our wilderness work party series!
This summer, give something back to the trails that make it possible for so many of us to enjoy our treasured wild places and wildlife. Volunteer trail work is a fun, fulfilling way to get out into nature with old and new friends and learn about wilderness traditions and tools. No experience is required and families and youth are welcome.
For the past several years, volunteers from the Spokane Mountaineers, Backcountry Horsemen, Washington Trails Association, and Conservation Northwest have helped the Colville National Forest with trail maintenance efforts in the Salmo-Priest Wilderness and surrounding wild areas.
All work party locations are about 2 1/2 hour drive north of Spokane. Primitive car camping is available (outhouses and tent spots). Potluck dinners are typically shared by all around the campfire, as are the occasional buffet-style breakfasts, but check with the trip leader to be sure, as some work parties are done backpack style with few amenities.
We will provide you with fun Conservation Northwest work gloves that you get to take home with you after the hard day's work. Please do bring sturdy boots, long pants, work clothes, lunch, snacks, and water; and all other warm, functional clothing; backpack gear and any other supplies you think you’ll need for a day at work on a wilderness trail.
Special thanks to REI, Inc., and the Spring Trust for Trails for their financial support of volunteer trail maintenance efforts on the Colville National Forest!
