Quartzite
Quartzite Roadless Area on the Colville National Forest
Quartzite Mountain Roadless Area is the southernmost unlogged drainage in the Colville National Forest and its old-growth cedar and hemlock forest at its southern edge, as well as the adjacent private Betts Meadow preserve, have attracted nature enthusiasts and photographers for years.
With its close proximity to Spokane and 49 Degrees North Ski Area, Quartzite Mountain is a popular draw to the area, especially with the development of trails proposed nearby. Quartzite also features habitat for wolverines, Canada lynx, and pine marten. It is also home to more than 20 rare plant species that would be protected from future development that often disturbs soils and spreads invasive plants that can out-compete native plants and wildflowers.
