The best thing you can do today for the wildlife of the Columbia Highlands of northeast Washington is to write a letter supporting wilderness designation for these still wild lands. Help us urge the Forest Service to recommend the Colville National Forest’s remaining roadless areas for wilderness status, protecting the wild character of these lands until Congress can consider them for formal wilderness designation.
Personal letters have a powerful, critical role to play as the Forest Service considers input from a wide range of opinions from ORV users, bird watchers, hunters, hiking and camping enthusiasts, conservationists, and others. If you use the hiking trails and enjoy the native fish, and wildlife, and natural beauty of northeastern Washington, now is the time to put pen to paper (or fingertips to keyboard) and help sway the future of northeast Washington wild lands. Your voice will make a difference!
The Forest Service is taking comments until November 30, 2008.
This historic public comment period could be our best chance in a quarter of a century to secure added protection for the wild lands of the Colville National Forest, which currently has less than 3% of its 1.1 million acres designated as wilderness.
You are encouraged to write a personal letter even if you have already signed a wilderness postcard, attended a wilderness recommendation public meeting, or commented via the Forest Service website.
