Pick up your free 2012 REI Kids Adventure Journal and celebrate National Trails Day with REI and Riverside State Park at this family-friendly forest health volunteer event.
Conservation Northwest has been on the ground working to advance real forest restoration on the Colville National Forest in northeast Washington for years. Here’s a chance to get your hands dirty and see how thinning small trees in dry ponderosa pine forests can improve habit and reduce the risk of large wildfires in one of Spokane’s popular urban forest and recreation areas.
Plan to bring a smile and a pair of gloves for every member of your group. Riverside State Park will provide pruners but if you have a set and want to bring it that will help. Kids are welcome; most of the project will be cutting and hauling trees smaller than one inch in diameter. Chainsaws will not be needed and accompanying pets need to be leashed at all times. Discover Passes are not required for parking at this event.
