June 2 - The Spokane REI is teaming up with Riverside State Park to make the forest healthier at this family-friendly work party event.

Pick up your free
2012 REI Kids Adventure Journal and celebrate National Trails Day with REI and Riverside State Park at this family-friendly
forest health volunteer event.

Conservation Northwest has been on the
ground working to advance real forest restoration on the Colville National Forest in northeast Washington for
years. Here’s a chance to get your hands dirty and see how thinning
small trees in dry ponderosa pine forests can improve habit and reduce the risk
of large wildfires in one of Spokane’s
popular urban forest and recreation areas.

Plan to
bring a smile and a pair of gloves for every member of your group. Riverside State Park will provide pruners but if
you have a set and want to bring it that will help. Kids are welcome; most of
the project will be cutting and hauling trees smaller than one inch in
diameter. Chainsaws will not be needed and accompanying pets need to be leashed
at all times. Discover Passes are not required for parking at this event.

Seattle - 2012 Wildlife Monitoring Training Day

June 2 - Have you always wanted to be a part of Conservation Northwest's Citizen Wildlife Monitoring Program? Volunteers new and returning: come expand your monitoring skills!

For those who plan on participating in the 2012 summer monitoring season:
please join us for our 2012 training day!
This is an opportunity for new and returning volunteers alike to refresh on how to be a successful and prepared field volunteer
for the summer season and beyond.

It's important that both new and returning volunteers attend. We'll make the training efficient in order to wrap it up on time - we know how
valuable summer weekends are!

Seasoned experts, Conservation Northwest staff, state and federal agency biologists,
and several guest speakers will prep you for the upcoming season. We'll also
practice setting up mock camera sites at Seward Park
and discuss protocols for the various target species, from pine martens to
grizzly bears.

The training is part of the continued effort to build the skill set of our
dedicated volunteers and further your camera
monitoring knowledge. At the training, we will distribute equipment to 2012
teams, finalize site locations, and connect volunteers to teams for the season.

RSVP to Kit in the Seattle Conservation Northwest office, and please bring your own lunch!
