The Friends of Martha Washington Park, in cooperation with Seattle Parks, are beginning monthly work parties to rescue the stand of Garry oaks at Martha Washington Park.

Work parties are the 3rd Sunday of each month.

The nine (count 'em, 9!) Garry oaks at MW Park are remnants of what is believed to have been a large savannah that stretched from Seward Park to Pritchard Island. Together with about 20 oaks at Seward Park, they represent the last Garry oaks on public land in Seattle.

Learn more about other rare remnant oak-woodland at the site of a proposed Cross-Base Highway.

Please come and help us remove ivy, clear blackberries from the hillside, and prepare the area for eventual plantings of native meadow and shrub species.

We will have some tools, but please bring hand tools and gloves if you have them.
