“I enjoy being outside. It’s where I ground myself, reset my priorities, calm my mind and stand in awe of the world I am fortunate enough to live in. We are privileged to live in such an awesome region, and I feel even more privileged to work with such an amazing organization to help protect it for generations to come.”

Recognition for success

Recognition for success

We're fortunate to have several board members who date back to when we were still called the Greater Ecosystem Alliance. Bill Donnelly is one of them, and we salute him here. "Conservation Northwest's science-based and connectivity-focused approach matched my own views of how we should be protecting wild places into the future," said Bill. Bill's passion for conservation had led him to serve on several boards and, most recently, to promote the film about climate change, Chasing Ice. Bill is also an ardent supporter of Conservation Northwest, even including us in his estate plan.

He thinks changing national and local policies are important for creating real change on the ground. And he appreciates the role that Conservation Northwest plays. “Two of the things Conservation Northwest does right is being collaborative, and looking at the science. They are also out front on a lot of issues such as connecting wildlife habitat and purchasing easements on private land – they’re not just talking about it; they’re doing it,” said Floyd. “And Mitch picks his battles smartly.”

Today, in the second of a series on our Conservation Northwest board members, I’d like you to meet our current board president, Heidi Wills. I love that Heidi begins each of our board meetings, held in person four times a year in Seattle, with a series of questions based on Mitch Friedman’s latest report to the board. The board member with the right answer gets a chocolate bar! “I joined the board because protecting our environment, wild lands, and biodiversity are among my strongest passions. I also deeply respect the reputation of Conservation Northwest and its effectiveness, with the Loomis Forest Project being a remarkable achievement,” said Heidi.

On this sunny, second day of summer, we invite you to meet two of our talented and dedicated board of directors, Steve Sundquist and Michel Girard. Steve: “I'm analytical, good at partnering, and have a bias toward action . . . all things that serve a non-profit well.” Michel: “I can walk up to a complete stranger, make them feel comfortable - and then ask for money.” Here's to you!
