Plots in and plants on the way

Two wildlife underpasses are nearly complete just east of Snoqualmie Pass on I-90. And what better way to entice wildlife to use the underpasses but by restoring native plants! This fall, Conservation Northwest is sponsoring two Saturday work parties, September 29 and October 13, working with the Mt Baker-Snoqualmie and Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forests to restore habitat at the Gold Creek underpasses beneath I-90. We plan to plant over 5,000 native plants and seeds around Gold Creek pond. For that we need your help...We need you! Contact Jen Watkins to sign up now!

Western governors connect for I-90 wildlife

At Suncadia in Washington's Cascades, Gov. Gregoire hosted other governors at this year's Western Governors Association meeting. The party launched the "Get Out West Initiative," encouraging people to enjoy the great outdoor experiences that Western states have to offer. The day to follow included a field tour of the I-90 wildlife corridor, as well as an awards ceremony for winning visions from elementary students for wildlife bridges in Washington!

A lot of our success is measured by dry forest acres restored, better wildlife management policies passed, and, well, sometimes simply successful phone calls. Maybe not thrilling Friday blog material, but of course important. Today, however, our success is measured by a coyote. And not so much by the coyote, really, as where it went for a walk.
