Chumstick Wildfire Stewardship Coalition

Page dedicated to information, resources, and updates on the coalition's efforts.

Working collaborately to reduce fire risk in Chelan County

The mission of the group is to protect lives, property and infrastructure in the Chumstick Chumstick-cabin-chelminiakwatershed from wildfire through a collaborative partnership.  Approaches utilized will be outreach and strategic planning which will lead to actions on public and private lands to benefit people, wildlife, forest health and the community at large.

This collaborative effort continues on the strong work of individuals and organizations working on conservation, fuels reduction, and Community Wildlife Protection Plans in the Leavenworth area over the past several years.

Structure

The group is fiscally sponsored by the North Central Washington RC & D and staffed by our director Annie Schmidt.  Led by current elected Coalition Chair, Ross Frank, participants include local landowners, local fire district, County Commissioner Keith Goehner, WDFW, The Wilderness Society, Conservation Northwest, and more.  The group is looking to engage all those interested in fuels reduction work in this important drainage to people and wildlife, so contact us if you are interested in learning more.

Projects

The group is interested in moving forward fuels reduction efforts on both public and private lands in the Chumstick watershed.  We are working closely with the Wenatchee River Ranger District on a potential Healthy Forest Restoration Act project on national forest land to compliment the work to be done on private lands.
