Certification under the FSC is accomplished by voluntary compliance with regionally specific standards and criteria.
The certification process helps ensure that a particular forestry operation is ecologically sound, socially beneficial, and economically viable. Many companies are beginning to offer FSC-certified wood, responding to a steady shift in the market place in favor of ecologically and socially sustainable forest products.
