Reliant on deep snowpacks as a "step-up" to tree-hung lichens, what will climate change mean for mountain caribou? Attend a climate change rally May 21st! Photo by Roland Usher

From orcas and salmon to grizzly bears, wolverines, and pikas; from murrelets to moose; from mountains to sea–all the wildlife and habitats we have fought to protect over the decades are threatened by climate change.

Rally for Climate, Clean Energy, and Public Health on Thursday, May 21, 2009, at 12 pm noon in downtown Seattle.

Our cultural icons, polar bears and whales, will be the most visibly and tragically affected by these looming changes to our planet. Needless to say all of us will be affected as well from decreased snowpack in the Cascades, disrupted river flows, increased competition and costs for water to increased wildland fires, pests, pathogens, and invasive species.

The future of our beloved Pacific Northwest and beyond is not a rosy one under most climate change scenarios–and it is our children and theirs who will ultimately bear the worst of it. This is the most serious issue to face humanity in our history and one on which EVERYONE must work to prevent and mitigate.

It's all hands on deck! On May 21st Seattle will host one of only two EPA public hearings on climate change in the entire country. The EPA is seeking public input on their decision that climate change is a threat to human health, the first step in establishing new rules to reduce global warming pollution. Attend a rally outside the hearing. It’s time to tackle climate change.

Rally for wildlife. Become a rally magnet! Where and when? At noon, outside of Bell Harbor Convention Center, 2211 Alaskan Way, Pier 66, downtown Seattle.
