Collaboration for the future
A successful coalition of timber industry leaders, local businesses owners, community leaders, conservationists, public agencies, and many others have created a plan for the healthy future of northeast Washington.
Conservation Northwest is proud to be part of a novel collaborative group, the Northeast Washington Forestry Coalition. This successful coalition of timber industry leaders, local businesses owners, community leaders, conservationists, public agencies, and many others has labored together over the last eight years to find solutions for both people and wildlife on the Colville National Forest.
Together, we have moved from controversy to common ground by creating a balanced plan of restoration, active timber management, and wilderness protection and in the process becoming a national success story – noted as a national model by the Secretary of Agriculture, Tom Vilsack.
The Columbia Highlands Initiative, led by Conservation Northwest and The Lands Council, seeks to extend this collaborative success by promoting thoughtful recreation access, sustaining working ranches and advancing the Coalition’s plan for national forest management that includes a balance of uses including new wilderness areas.
